DORTMUND, Germany — The second annual European Bamboo Expo 2024 will take place in Dortmund, Germany, from May 16, 2024 through May 18, 2024, and will focus on the pivotal role bamboo plays within the circular economy, with special emphasis on the construction and food industries. Expo organizers intend to feature more than 60 international speakers and exhibitors and aim to welcome hundreds of trade visitors to showcase bamboo’s remarkable versatility as a renewable material in architecture, textiles, agriculture, and commercial product design.
“By underscoring bamboo’s extraordinary ability to rejuvenate degraded lands while creating abundant opportunities for agricultural workers and investors in European crops,” says expo organizer Iraklis Kalamenios (Weproductions), “we can help fuel innovation in the circular economy.”
This year’s expo builds on the success of last year’s inaugural event, which drew more than 300 exhibitors, speakers, and trade visitors from around the world, and provided companies with a unique opportunity to showcase their latest products, technologies, and services for potential business partners, customers, and government agencies. Attendees walked away with the latest trends in the global bamboo industry and explored new opportunities for research, product development, and investment within the European market. Last year’s event also showcased sustainable architecture created with bamboo, a topic that this year’s expo will replicate, as well as the strong emphasis on public engagement—attracting locals and consumers, as well as architects, builders, decision makers, and industry stakeholders. It’s the second time the European Bamboo Expo has been held in Dortmund, a city that’s been supportive of both bamboo and renewable materials in general.
“Dortmund is creating environmental quality and employment through climate protection. As a large city with the most green spaces, we are knowledgeable about growth and renewable resources,” says the Lord Mayor of Dortmund, Thomas Westphal. “We have been actively involved in the sustainable, circular, and socially beneficial economy for a long time, and it is important to me that an expo focusing on the sustainable use of our resources is hosted in our neighboring metropolis. With the ‘European Bamboo Expo,’ we aim to promote a renewable resource that is already well-known and widely used in Asia, bringing it to market maturity and increasing its awareness in Europe.”
The European Bamboo Expo 2024 is proudly presented by the city of Dortmund and organized and executed by the event production and marketing company, Weproductions. The conference-expo will take place at Dietrich-Keuning-Haus, Leopoldstraße 50-58, 44147 Dortmund.
